On October 19, the Academics Forum on High-quality Development of China’s Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Industry, jointly organized by the International Ecological Economy Promotion Association, China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing) and Legal Daily, was held in Beijing. CECEP CEO Yu Honghui was invited to the forum and delivered a speech.
During the event, Yu conducted in-depth exchange and discussion with government and business leaders, industry experts and other guests on promoting high-quality development of China’s energy conservation and environmental protection industry in the new era. He also introduced the development of CECEP, especially its efforts in environmental governance of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, great protection of the Yangtze River, the ecological protection of the Yellow River Basin and the construction of Belt and Road Initiative, and shared the company’s perception and experience. In retrospect of its practices in energy conservation and environmental protection, he said, CECEP has deeply realized the importance of following the guidance of President Xi Jinping’s thought of ecological civilization, adhering to the new concepts of development, strengthening unity and collaboration and enhancing model innovation and technological innovation.
Yu stressed that although CECEP has entered the fast lane of development and made a series of achievements, there is still a big gap compared with the requirements of the central government, the goal of ecological civilization in the new era and the needs of high-quality economic development. It is still faced with a number of outstanding problems such as low industrial concentration, heavy pollution control task, insufficient innovation in business models, capital shortage and weak driving force of scientific and technological innovation. On solving the difficulties in environmental governance and propeling the high-quality development of Chinese economy, Yu briefly analyzed the problems and challenges facing the energy conservation and environmental protection industry before putting forward specific suggestions on vigorously promoting specialized integration, strengthening source reduction and whole-process control, promoting the third-party management of environmental pollution, developing and expanding green finance and pushing forward major technological R&D and achievements transformation in a holistic manner.
The forum attracted participation from academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, counselors of the State Council, experts and scholars from the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Peking University, Tsinghua University, China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing), Nankai University and Tongji University, and business representatives of SOEs, private companies and foreign-funded firms. The meeting discussed development policies of the energy conservation and environmental protection industry and the opportunities and challenges facing enterprises in the industry, listened to the policy needs and suggestions of entrepreneurs, and delivered advice on continuously optimizing the business environment in the industry.
